I am a Mom to five great kids, a wife to the most amazing supportive husband and my life is full of family and friends I adore.
We founded TruFlavor Seasonings out of my love for cooking and entertaining which started at a very early age in a tiny town in Cienfuegos, Cuba.
Growing up I was very interested in cooking. I was constantly helping prep meals and learning through watching my Abuela, Mom and Aunts cook.
At the age of 13 I was finally allowed to cook a meal for the first time by myself. I didn’t have a written recipe but I had all of the years I watched the women in my life cook. Out the back door I went to pick the fresh herbs and seasonings I would use from the garden, ground up some spices in the mortar and pestle and soon my first dish "Chicken Fricassee " was done. My family loved every bite of it! Right after that first meal I knew cooking was something I was passionate about. I needed to know more and so my journey continued…
Since moving to the US In 1996 I have worked in the food industry. Through the years I have been the dishwasher, the cook, the catering manager, and a buyer for a manufacturing company before deciding to stay home to raise my kids.
Throughout the years I have had a chance to learn about foods from different cultures and I have spent a good amount of time experimenting with dried spices, herbs and seasonings. I have found that they are not given enough credit. They can be quite delicious if used with the right combination of fresh ingredients to give it that homemade flavor we love.
My dream has always been to open my own restaurant or a little café where I could bring my cooking to anyone willing to give it a try. However, the overhead and long hours involved in running a restaurant are not an option for me while my kids are still young.
Fast forward to September 2019, where I would be attending a Beauty Summit conference for a skincare company I love and have a side gig with. There in Louisville, Kentucky in the conference room of the hotel the founder and CEO is giving a speech designed to get you hyped up with new products to sell. Her message to me was clear and so inspiring. I can achieve my dream, but I must find a different way. Since that day I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I knew there was no more waiting for the perfect situation.
I began by concentrating on just one recipe to start, a Cuban Grilled Chicken recipe that’s very popular among my family and friends. How can I take this recipe and bring it to you so that it is as fresh tasting as when I make it? Putting this marinade in a bottle would require it to be shelf stable. Since that process completely changes the fresh taste of the lemon it needs, that wouldn’t work.
A few days later I woke up early in the morning and before I even opened my eyes, I knew what the best way to accomplishing my calling was.
If I carefully crafted and provided you with high quality dry blends of seasonings, herbs and spices with the flavors that makes my dishes come to life, all you would need to do is follow the simple recipes I would provide. This process would still allow you to use the fresh ingredients that brings a great fresh tasting meal together.
Since then, I began to make these seasoning blends starting with the Grilled Chicken. I gave out a ton a samples to friends and family and the feedback and the support has been overwhelming. The Cuban Grilled Chicken blend has even been used as a dry rub to bake or pan fry chicken and some people are also loving it as a seasoning in chicken salad!
I have now made it my mission to find flavors from all over the world starting with my native country of Cuba.
